Princess Pumpkin Face

Here is a cover I made for an adorable story called The Adventures of Princess Pumpkinface. I wont give out too much about the story because it isn’t published yet, but the beginning that I got of this fairytale is pretty charming.

The Author is Dave Sheaves

the slow progress

Here are 2 separate pieces that are slowly moving completion. The bottom one is a very detailed nightmare painting that has been hidden under a bed for months. I thought I’d air it out and work on it a little more. neither is CLOSE to being done, but i thought that if i posted it, I’d be more inclined to finish it.

The sun dips

and hips begin to move in the wake of the sun. smokey chambers meant for the young of heart will gather the spirits that thwart the morning mediocrity.

In the city of lights only bright at night.

In flight from the morning gloom of daylight.

Costumes of painted eyes and twisting thighs in skinny jeans. It means but a moment. A minutes worth of an hour,

cold showers to follow.

Swallow what you can of this space filled with friends.

These smokey illusions that make you laugh.

Dreams…

So I’m sure we all know that not every day is sunny, not every movie is happy, and not every dream is pleasant.

Here in this blog are a few pieces of mine inspired by those unpleasant, sometimes scary moments experienced during sleep. Something what I like to do to help purge those scary moments from my mind (and not go insane) is to re-create them. That way I can look at it infront of me and be removed, but also reflect. Its a useful tact that allows me to better understand my dreams and perhaps myself. Fear I think is caused by the lack of understanding after all.

Perhaps there is a sunny side to a dark experience. Without the occasional struggle within the unconscious mind, the experience of fear, regret, sadness, loathing, etc. perhaps we wouldn’t be quite so capable of dealing with those burried emotions in more real situations. I think that dreams can be tools. They can be excersizes in mental strength that present us with impossible scenarios that have some relation to a situation or circumstance we are troubling with while awake.

The good thing about nightmares, is that we wake up from them. Unbeknownst to the rest of the world (unless we talk about them) they are our own experiences, and regardless of where we get our experiences, they can shape us.If we make the choice to not try and learn from our experiences, we are bound to make mistakes again and that goes without saying (and wouldn’t it suck if you didn’t learn something within the safety of your thoughts when you could have).

Maybe dreams and nightmares are a form of mental osmosis, where we experience reality, then re-experience a fictional version of it, then hopefully, experience reality again having gained some lesson about it while asleep. If form follows fiction, then understanding fiction definitely has some weight in shaping the type of form that proceeds it.

Finding sense in nonsense.

Losing our fear by understanding why we have it.

Becoming stronger and more intuitive because you HAVE to if a shape shifting monster is chasing after you as the world falls apart around it. If you can learn how to change the endings of your worst dreams, maybe there will be less anxieties when the world seems to be falling apart around you. Maybe you can smile, remind yourself that you’ve been here before, and move on.

sooo.

I’ve entered a competition on NOWNESS (a wonderful website that I’ve been subscribed to for a while for their kick-ass content). The competition has gathered artists from all over to give their own personal depiction of one of Haruki Murakamis’ novels. Below is my interpretation of Sputnik Sweetheart. All of the swirling black lines in the sky are supposed to represent paper, as the main character was an intense writer, heavily wrapped up in her work. One day when she disappears, these broken clues on bits of paper are all that is left for those left looking for her. It really is a beautiful story about a perpetual want for the impossible and distant. I suggest reading it if you havent already.

That being said if I could get a few votes from YOU lovely people, maybe my chances would not beso impossible.

Here is the link below the image! Register to vote. the site is totally worth it :)

voting stops on the 18 of october!

Kaleidoscope colours

hThis is a table top I made that was inspired by perceptions through a kaleidoscope. Though I made it a while ago, my new toy reminded me that I had it.
